4.1.1VoltageDrop.Voltagedropisameasureof
thepowerandassociatedtemperatureriseacircuit
isgeneratingasitpassescurrent.Voltagedropmeasurements
conductedacrosscontactswhichhaveremained
openforsustainedperiodswillbehigherthan
measurementstakenafteroneortwocyclesofoperation.
Forthisreason,startthevoltagedroptestby
measuringcontactinterfaceswhichrequireactuation;
thenreturntothecontactswhichmakecircuitinthe
de-energizedstate.
4.1.1.1Applythenominaltestspecificationoperating
parameter(temperature,pressure,displacement,
etc.)whichcausesaneiectricalcircuitchangeofstate
tooccur.Maintaintheoperatingparameteruntilelectrical
ormechanicalstabilityisachieved.
4.1.1.2AKelvinorfour-wireapproachshallbeused
toassuretheconnectorinterfaceisnotpartofthe
recordedmeasurement.WhenaKelvinapproachis
notpracticalduetodevicedesign,suchasinthecase
ofskirtedorsealedswitches,voitagedropshallbe
determinedbyplacingthevoltmeterprobesonthe
femaleconnectorsoratapointontheharness75mm
fromtheconnectorinterface.Noteanynon-Kelvin
methodonthetestdatasheet.
4.1.1.3Useananalogordigitalvoltmetercapableof
0.001voltresolutionandapplytheratedresistiveload
asdefinedbythetestspecification.Refertothecircuit
schematicforterminalidentification;thencheckall
contactinterfacesforallnormallyopenandnormally
closedcircuits.
4.1.1.4Takethevoltagedropmeasurements
0.5to3.0saftertheloadcurrenthasstabilized.If
readingisoutofspecificationlimits,repeatmeasurements
threetimeswhileswitchingtheratedload
andaveragereadingstoassurethevaluewillbe
repeatablewhenreturnedtothedesignsource.Ifthe
switchloadcurrentispulsingorintermittent,testata
steadystateresistiveloadequaltothesteadystate
applicationload..
